Toerboer prides itself on its responsible travel ethics. We use biodegradable products when we camp and travel in the wild. Our office is extremely green (recycling, water and energy saving) and we always strive to leave a positive and lasting impact on the local communities that we travel through without impacting on their daily lives.
We love creative and multi-faceted long-term partnerships. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, we like to develop unique relationships that best serve our partners and our mission. Our most successful partnerships span several years and employ multiple different tactics.
Please follow the links for more information or to donate to the cause. You can also visit our Blog here for more information and articles about how you can be a responsible traveller.
We support the following organisations :
Greenpop is a social enterprise planting trees, growing food and education for action across Southern Africa. They collaborate with passionate individuals and organizations, like Toerboer, with years of experience to plant trees, grow gardens and educate for action across Southern Africa.
Greenpop is an award-winning non-profit organisation on a mission to (re)connect people with our planet. They plant trees, grow food, educate people and have fun doing it!
They work on urban greening, reforestation, and food growing projects, and educate people through practical workshops. Greenpop was founded in 2010 and has since planted almost 80 000 trees at schools and other urban sites as well as forests and farms across South Africa, Zambia and Tanzania.
For every person that tours with Toerboer, we donate one tree to Greenpop. You can also join their community of treevolutionaries. Take a look at their website for ways to get involved.
Eco Children started life in 2004 as Children’s Eco Training, founded by Sandy Wilkes.
Their initial focus was on environmental education programmes offered to children of staff in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve who attended schools in the Acornhoek area. However, they realised that the need was much greater than anticipated and embarked on a number of projects to develop into the organisation it is today, working more broadly on whole school development with a focus on conservation and sustainability.
Toerboer contributes a percentage of every package sold to this cause. You can do the same by making an individual donation on their website.
